There are quite a few people (us included) who have been waiting for the past few weeks for symbiansigned.com to re-enable the open-signed signing service so that we can get cool freeware apps like RotateMe and SlideHangup installed on our / your phones - Well they have finished their "upgrading" and have launched a new "Open Signed Online" service - which to be fair is 100% totally free and available to anyone BUT (didn't you just know that there was a BUT coming...) the open signed service is aimed at developers and without going into to many technical details only the application developer can sign their application for their phone Frown

Well done SymbianSigned - you have just killed open source symbian development!

While it is true that application developers CAN develop their apps so that they are not the "owner" it still means that all previous apps cannot be installed on your N95's.

There is currently a lot of discussion going on at the moment on various forums (including the SymbianSigned developer forums) and no-one is 100% sure if this situation is permanent or not.

I am just waiting to see if purchasing a Publisher ID will allow me to sign files for you guys - if it does then I will spend my dosh to get one and get you guys your files!

Reading the Symbiansigned site it doesn't seem like the end is here, it's still possible to sign your applications and there's more to come. That's the impression I got.

However if someone does bur their own certificate then they could themselves set up a similar service. These certificates aren't cheap though.
