Nokia if you remember filed a lawsuit against Apple earlier in the year, asserting that the iPhone developers had infringed upon Nokia's patents. Instead of simply fighting the lawsuit, Apple has issued a counter-suit of their own claiming Nokia has copied them. Now all interested parties get to watch a multi-million dollar game of he said/she said.

Originally, Nokia filed their suit against Apple for infringing upon their GSM/UMTS patents trying to get Apple to cough up royalties. The patents Nokia referred to involved 2G and 3G connections, also WiFi integration for cell phones. The suit was filed in October when Apple refused to agree to Nokia's licensing terms. Apple deemed the terms unreasonable, which led to the company developing technology of their own.

Instead of just playing defense, Apple has struck back claiming Nokia has infringed on their patents, "Nokia has demonstrated its willingness to copy Apple's iPhone ideas as well as Apple's basic computing technologies, all while demanding Apple pay for access to Nokia's purported standards essential patent"
