It's official! The recently rumoured v20 firmware is now available for non-branded N95-1's (Original N95's). The changelog is a bit flaky at the moment but the highlights are:

  • Demand Paging! (increased memory on boot up and faster application load times and memory handling)
  • Integrated N-Gage application
  • Nokia search 4.0 on active standby screen
  • key-press "bug" gone (hopefully)
  • New "Welcome" application
  • Camera tweaks - including faster shot to shot times. (apparently a LOT faster!)
  • "My Nokia" web portal integrated.
  • YouTube video's now play in the browser.

To get the latest firmware you need to have a non-branded handset (search this site for instructions on how to debrand your N95) and then just plug it into your PC and use the Nokia updater.

I'll be updating mine shortly so I'll let you all know the improvements....

WARNING: upgrading your firmware will loose all your data so back up everything first!

De-Branding your handset is fine as long as you follow the instructions - but if you get it wrong then you can damage your handset. This website takes no responsibility for anyone debranding and breaking their phone!

I 'De-Branded' my N95-1 which was on o2 & it went fine. When i went to upgrade the phone however it froze with 4 mins to go & locked up.I've had to take it back to the phone shop who'll hopefully reinstall the software without noticing but if you want my advice just wait cos i never had any trouble with it up to that point.

oh and to confirm the camera is way way way way faster. Startup time is about (from opening the shutter) 4 seconds and from shot-to-shot is around 6 seconds without a preview.

If anybody has any questions ill try my best to answer them.

Ya everything you said there was correct except that Nokia removed the Flash Lite 3 from the firmware so that means no flash videos in the browser. :sigh
